Settings are for a grown-up. Answer this to open them.
Same five profiles as Words with Sam: David, Adam, Tommy, John, and Dad (Dad is a sandbox preview and does not change kids' scores).
These voices are free and work offline for the voice you pick. A sentence with no saved clip is said by the site's voice when it is there, else from word clips, else by this device's voice.
Used when you pick "This device's voice" above, and when nothing else can say a line.
Better free voices: on iPhone go to Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Voices and download an Enhanced or Premium voice, then pick it here.
Voice speed is saved for the child who is talking (for this device when nobody is chosen). Move it to hear it. 85% is Normal.
Main kid modes are Letter board, Typing and Phrases. Feel and the core grid stay available here; tap a tab to go back.
On for each child unless you switch it off (never for Dad). Words and the order he uses them in are learned only from messages he really said or showed, fade after a month or so, and stay on this device for suggestions only. Suggestions he did not pick are never counted.
Off: only words the app already knows are learned. On: new words stay on this device for suggestions only.
Forget what he has learned (two taps each). Dad learns nothing, so he has nothing to forget.

An idea keeps every word your child chose, in the same order, and never adds "not" or a name. Nothing is said until your child taps it. This choice is for this child.
Off unless you turn it on. When on, only common words are sent; any other word (a name, a place, a pet) stays on this device and is sent as X1, X2. No name, no child and no history is sent, and the site keeps only counts. With no internet, or past the daily limit, the app quietly uses its own ideas. This choice is for every child on this device.
Going somewhere or doing something new? Name it and get phrases to keep as a page in Phrases › Our phrases. Please don't type names.
Add a phrase your child already says or loves. It takes the next free place and the others stay put.
For parents and the SLP. Counts only, kept on this device.
Listen (on Typing) hears what someone says to your child and offers replies. The microphone is on only while Listen shows "Listening": it stops after 3 minutes without a tap, when the app is closed or hidden, and while the app speaks. Nothing heard is kept, on this device or on the site.
Built-in listening works in Chrome, Edge and Safari; not in Firefox. Some browsers (Chrome) send the sound to their own speech service unless their on-device voice pack is installed. If it cannot run, Listen says so; it does not switch to AI listening by itself.

Family devices get cloud AI. Free devices use the phone's own listening and the app's own replies and ideas. Every device gets every voice.
The backup holds this child's settings, hidden words and the phrases you added, and every child's People and places lists and Voice speed.
Tap Test voice, then read this line again: "started" means the phone began to speak.
One moment…
Everything on this board works without signing in.
Premium adds cloud AI:
Everyone keeps every voice (Kid boy, Kid girl, Woman, Man), the built-in listening, and every word and phrase.
Premium is coming soon. It is for a grown-up to choose.
Only used to offer replies now. It is not kept.
For Listen's replies to "who" and "where" questions. Only these names and places are offered. Saved on this device for each child.
Counts only. No message text and no typed words.
